Signing of Memorandum of Understanding with Manoel
PRESS CONFERENCE AT THE MANOEL THEATRE ON SATURDAY 10TH DECEMBER 2005
The Ballet performance linked with the signing of the Memorandum of understanding between the Prague National Theatre and the Manoel Theatre is the first move being made by the my Consulate in line with the Cultural Agreement signed between the two Countries in January this year during the State Visit to Prague by HE The President of Malta Dr Edward Fenech Adami.
The agreement between the two Theatres is a first for Malta and I am sure that this will open the doors for a future of exchanges in the cultural field that will be extremely beneficial for Malta.
The Consulate is proud to be able to work with the Theatre Management and is full of admiration for their timeless efforts to consistently stage world-class performances. The support to the National Theatre will benefit the Maltese audience by contributing to the staging of extraordinary artistic moments.
As it has become the practice for these last years my Consulate is committed to providing the very best of Czech Cultural programmes and we are delighted to be able to do this with such a prestigious partners as the Teatru Manuel. This year was a particular year for Czech Culture in Malta. We had started by celebrating the Czech Year of Music in 2004 with a choir in St John’s Co-Cathedral and continued this year with the WOW Black Light Theatre at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, a very successful Piano Recital in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund and a Youth Band during our National Day festivities at the Valletta Water front. A vast choice at different venues.
I also wish to be permitted to mention that as part of our activities “THE CZECH REPUBLIC HERALDS CHRISTMAS IN MALTA 2005 “ the Czech Republic is donating a live twelve meter Christmas tree to Malta for use during the Christmas campaign organized by the Malta Community Chest Fund, the tree will be accompanied by a letter to the President of Malta by President of the Czech Republic Vaclav Klaus . The President of Malta will illuminate the tree on Saturday 17th December in Freedom Square Valletta and the event will be broadcasted live on Malta Television.
Finally a word of thanks go to the sponsors of the Ballet performance CORINTHIA HOTELS INTERNATIONAL, HSBC BANK MALTA and SKODA AUTO without whose support we would not be able to stage this event.
